Breast Augmentation

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation or breast enlargement is one of the most popular breast enhancement procedures in the country. This surgical cosmetic procedure involves the use of silicone or saline implants being introduced into the chest to add or restore natural-looking volume. At East Cooper Plastic Surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeons specialize in the enhancement of women's breasts.

What Are the Benefits of Breast Augmentation?

There are many benefits to receiving a breast augmentation at East Cooper Plastic Surgery, including:

  • Added volume to the breasts for a larger appearance and cup size
  • Enhanced overall size and shape of the breasts
  • Boosts overall confidence and self-esteem

What Can I Expect During my Breast Augmentation?

Your breast augmentation will be performed by Dr. James Craigie or Dr. Richard Kline in an operating room at a hospital. Before your surgery begins, an anesthesiologist will administer general anesthesia to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible throughout your procedure. Once asleep, your doctor will make a small incision under the breast, through which he will be able to insert your desired breast implants. The entire surgical procedure typically takes about one to two hours to complete.

What Can I Expect During my Breast Augmentation Recovery?

Following your breast augmentation, you will likely experience swelling, bruising, tenderness, and soreness around your chest. This is normal and typically subsides on its own within the following weeks. You will be asked to wear a surgical bra for the duration of your recovery to ensure your breasts settle and heal properly. Patients typically make an initial recovery within about two weeks, at which time they are able to return to most non-labor-intensive daily activities. Patients usually report making a full recovery within about two to three months, at which time they are able to return to all regular daily activities and wear a normal bra again.

Is Breast Augmentation Right for Me?

If you're dissatisfied with your breast size and desire an increase of one or more cup sizes, considering a breast augmentation could be a suitable choice. To determine its suitability, we require our patients to come in for a consultation, during which our board-certified plastic surgeons will provide personalized attention. They will attentively address your concerns, assess your current attributes, and formulate a customized treatment strategy to assist you in achieving your desired aesthetic outcomes. Those who are in good overall health and possess practical anticipations of the potential outcomes are considered ideal candidates for breast augmentation.
