Breast Lift

What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift or Mastopexy is a popular breast enhancement procedure that involves lifting the position of the breasts on the chest to create a more natural and youthful-looking appearance. Patients who desire a breast lift typically have sagging due to aging, pregnancy, breast feeding, or weight changes. All of these factors contribute to the breast skin to lose its elasticity and cause the breasts to hang lower than desired. Unlike a breast augmentation, this breast enhancement procedure does not add volume to the chest, rather it rejuvenates the breasts by removing excess skin and giving them a more perky look.

What are the Benefits of a Breast Lift?

There are many benefits to receiving a breast lift at East Cooper Plastic Surgery, including:

  • Enhances the overall shape and position of the breasts
  • Can be performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation for ultimate results
  • Minimal scarring
  • Boosts overall confidence and self-esteem

What Can I Expect During my Breast Lift?

Your breast lift will be performed by Dr. James Craigie or Dr. Richard Kline in an operating room at a hospital. Before your breast lift surgery begins, an anesthesiologist will administer general anesthesia to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible throughout your procedure. Once asleep, your doctor will make incisions around the breast and/or nipple. These incisions allow your surgeon to reshape the breast and remove excess skin that contributes to sagging. The entire surgical procedure typically takes about two hours to complete.

What Can I Expect During my Breast Lift Recovery?

Following your breast lift, you will likely experience swelling, bruising, tenderness, and soreness around your chest. This is normal and typically subsides on its own within the following weeks. You will be asked to wear a special surgical bra for the duration of your recovery to ensure your breasts settle and heal properly following your procedure. Patients typically make an initial recovery within about two weeks, at which time they are able to return to most non-labor-intensive daily activities. Patients usually report making a full recovery within about two to three months, at which time they are able to return to all regular daily activities and wear a normal bra again.

Is a Breast Lift Right for Me?

If you're dissatisfied with the natural positioning or sagging of your breasts, a breast lift could offer a solution. To ascertain its suitability, our patients are required to come in for a consultation, where our board-certified plastic surgeons will provide individualized attention. They will take the time to discuss your concerns, assess your present attributes, and devise a tailored treatment strategy aimed at helping you achieve your aesthetic aspirations. Those who are in good overall health and possess pragmatic expectations regarding the potential outcomes are considered ideal candidates for a breast lift.
